Review from tantallon.org.uk: |
* John Smith's Bitter £1.90
(21.viii.1998)
As far as I can tell, this is much the same building as the Anchor on
Hayfield Road and the Philosopher and Firkin on Cowley Road Oxford. Duck egg
blue walls and ceilings and dark red seats. Big pool tables. Very
large on the inside with a long bar. Loud jukebox. (21.viii.1998)
Chris Brewer writes:
An extremely large building, that could on the face of it be converted into
a factory or warehouse. And it might as well be for all the customers it
had. The public bar was entirely empty, with a very forlorn air. The
lounge bar is painted a rather surprising shade of turquoise, but is a
pleasant enough room. A handful of people were watching a speedway meeting
from Eastbourne. (17.v.2000)
Mez updates:
The beer is kept in excellent condition and many people comment on its
quality, particularly those of visiting darts and pool teams. The pub has
probably changed since you last visited and is normally busy with many
regulars and a good atmosphere. The landlord Garry Croad has been the tenant
for a while now and has built up a regular clientele. (2.v.2001) |
