The Donnington Arms was situated at 147-151 Howard Street.
This pub is now used as a Nepalese
restaurant. |

This is an interesting building to
visit. Built in the early 1930s for Ind Coope, it was acquired by Greene
King in 1990 and sold on to become a Nepalese restaurant, Everest, while
retaining a separate bar. This is also an impressive corner pub with many
original features, above the front entrance, a wrought iron Halls of Oxford
sign plus a very early Greene King motif almost carved into the brickwork.
The bar is as built along with all the doors and windows, and very friendly
welcome came our way. Despite the Fuller's London Pride pump clips, it has
not served cask ale for many years. |

The left hand bar is used as a Nepalese
restaurant, however the public bar has reopened under the original name of
The Donington Arms. |

Review from tantallon.org.uk: |
Duncan Parkes updates:
Now half Nepalese restaurant, but still obviously part pub. (2011-10-05)
Greene King IPA £1.60
Strongbow £1.90
Scrumpy Jack £2.10
Guinness £2.10 (25.xi.1997)
One of the surprisingly numerous outlets for Greene King in Oxford, this pub
is divided into three: a saloon bar on the left-as-you-go-in with pool
table, tiled floor and dartboard, an off-licence in the middle, and a
carpeted lounge bar on the right hand side, where they hold quiz nights on
Tuesdays.
Nice enough place, and due to its proximity to the Jesus flats behind
Bartlemas Close, a great favourite of Jesus second years, but the range of
beer isn't as good as the Duke (of Edinburgh) which is the other Greene King
pub in the area. They do Greene King Brewers Bitter, but they do it from a
keg.
It is on the corner with Silver Road. (25.xi.1997) |
