Royal Foresters

When the original Royal Foresters on Union Street was scheduled for demolition under Sutton’s redevelopment scheme, it was replaced with a new building on the corner of Coronation Street and Silk Street.
In April 1956, the Notts Free Press reported that “a new bigger hotel at the top of Silk Street is beginning to rise from the ground.” The new property was also owned by the Home Brewery Co, Daybrook, Nottingham. The building was officially opened in April 1957 by Mr H. S. Shacklock.
In 1989, Sutton Folk Club was held at the Royal Foresters, every Tuesday evening.
In 2008, the property was being advertised to let by Trust Inns. It was described as a community local with two bars. Its accommodation included a living room, dining kitchen, bathroom and four bedrooms. It also included a large car park and a beer garden.
In 2015, the now boarded up pub was put up for sale with planning permission for a number of houses to be built on the site. The building was demolished in October 2016 and the site cleared. The new houses have since been constructed and no sign of the Royal Foresters remains.
