The Oval

The Oval was situated on a road called
The Oval (because it was shaped like an oval) It was an estate pub in the
middle of the Carsic council estate. No build date, but it did not show on
any of the publicly accessible OS maps up to 1960. The council estate was
still in the process of being built at the time, but the pub did exist in
1975, when the Mansfield Brewery applied for planning permission to "make
alterations to the Oval PH". The last application on the planning portal is
dated 1991 when they wanted permission to add a satellite dish.
On Google street view, the 2009 timeline image shows the pub in the process
of being demolished. In December 2009 East Midlands Housing Association
applied for planning permission to build low cost housing on the site of the
"former Oval Public House". (planning ref V/2009/0632) At that time,
Marston's Pubs Ltd was listed on the "ownership certificate". (I don't know
if that means Marston's still owned the land?) I think Marston's took over
the Mansfield brand, rather than the pub being branded Marstons. |
