The Dog & Duck was situated on Station
Road (known as Forest Lane until the 19th century). |
|
This pub was present by 1788 when a
meeting of the Vestry was held "at the house of John Wass, the Dog & Duck
Inn". In 1871 a local cricket team played against the All England Eleven,
"on Clarkes Croft, near the Dog and Duck Inn". In 1876, William Clarke was
also described as a "Farmer". While empty and scheduled for demolition, the
building was attacked by arsonists in January 2001. The property was
demolished in March/April 2001 to clear the land to build the Portland
Retail Park. |
