The Pelican was situated on Pelican Road,
Radford. This pub was demolished in 1958. |

My husbands mother was born at the Pelican Inn. Her father was Charles
Blackburn, mother Ada. They had four children, one of whom died as a young
girl.
Charles died not long after returning from the 1914-1918 war. While he was
away, Ada ran the pub with the help of her family.
Sadly, as in your photograph the Pelican was pulled down to build a hideous
block of flats. All the cave cellars destroyed, wiping out so much of
interest.
It was supposed to have been haunted too, one of the rooms on the top floor
that the children stayed away from was so icily cold they were scared to go
up there.
I would love to think that some one remembered the family. |
