This old Commercial Hotel was due for demolition as part of the Meadows
reconstruction. I did not know that at the time as a young student at
Trent Polytechnic seeking cheap student digs. We were about 10 students
in the building which was really remarkably comfortable. This was the
year of the power workers' strikes and we were prone to regular
power-cuts. I do remember though that the street lighting was still gas. |
