The Old Castle was situated at 54 Mill Gate. This grade-II listed pub opened in 1792 and closed in 1966. It is now in residential use.

 
Listed building details:
Former public house and house, now shop and house. Late C18, with mid C19 alterations. Brick with stone dressings and pantile roof. Plinth, first floor band, dentilled eaves, gable band, 2 gable and single ridge stacks. 2 storeys plus attics; 6 window range of segment headed glazing bar sashes arranged 3/3, the central windows being smaller. Above, 4 C20 sloping dormers with casements, arranged 1/3. Below, to left, a moulded 6-panel door with overlight, flanked to left by a 2-pane shop window with toplights, and to right by a glazing bar sash, all with segmental heads. To right, a central mid C20 brick doorcase with 2-leaf door and overlight, flanked by 2 metal casements. Left gable oversails the adjoining No 8 Mill Lane. To right, 2 blanks, and above, 2 casements at
different levels, all with segmental heads. Below, to right, a half-glazed corner door with wooden lintel on shaped imposts, and to left, a glazing bar sash with segmental head.
