Blue Boar

Rebuilt Blue Boar

The Blue Boar was situated at 9 Stockwell Gate. The original pub was demolished in 1887 and rebuilt the same year. In 1891 the landlord George Mallatratts wife invested £100 in a local Trustees Group to issue free hot cross buns at Easter to poor children. This continued until 1988. Local archaeologists think the original building could date back to the 1400s. It was mentioned in Constables Lots in 1732. Constables Lots were a survey, recording all the victuallers, inns, brewers etc within the town. It was converted to retail use in 1991.
