The Englands Rose was situated on Upper Green. |

I do have very limited memories of England’s
Rose as we did live for a short while in the Square, Moreton Pinkney, but I
am actually emailing you to see if you would be able to tell me who the
owners of this pub are.
I would be very interested to know as I have seen recently that it has been
referred to on another website as an abandoned pub and must admit that I
drive through the village and have since seen it in a very sorry state of
affairs fenced off and looking very cast aside.
I think that the property should be returned to its former glory as the
original Red lion (I think)!

Formerly the Red Lion, the grade II
listed building was completely renovated and reopened as The Four Candles, a
gastro pub in 2016. Sadly it is reported as closed in 2017 |

This pub closed c2004. Until that time
it was the oldest surviving pub in the village, being built c1740. It
retained its chamfered spine beams, one of which had 1604 carved in it.
which is one indication that parts of the building may be much older. One
enterprising landlord, Charles Thomas Smith, took advantage of the coming of
the railway to open his own cattle market. |
