The Divers

The Divers was situated on King Street.  This pub is now in retail use.

In 1970 it was a large open pub popular with the yougsters. The main entrance was behind the motorbike in the above photo and opened out onto a large area of comfy seats. To get a drink you had to go down one of the two flights of 4-5 steps to a U shaped bar. Went there a lot in the 70's as it was a good place to meet. In fact I met the girl who was to become my lovely wife there, stood with her friend down by the bar in '78. The building went all the way through to the back where there was another entrance. It closed in 1997 "For refurbishment" but never reopened.
