The Moon was situated at 18 New North Street. This
was a famous real ale pub in the 1980s, sister pub to the Sun, around the
corner in Lamb’s Conduit Street. |

Always known as ‘Jack Birds’ by
locals who I believe was a former landlord |

The pub was originally
called the George and Dragon established about 1856 but as you say was known
to all as Jack Bird’s. The Birds were landlords from 1899 until 1915. The
pub was at the end of Boswell Court where I was born and lived in Boswell
House. My name is Bird but no relation. The pub was renamed The Moon in
1980. |

Many happy memories. I
lived in Ruislip and any excuse, my mates and I went up for a beer or 9 and
a curry. The Sun was our first port of call. Island bar. 40 handpumps? Then
onto The Moon. There was a great Indian restaurant opposite (Shama Tandoori)
and you could order then go back to the pub for beers. Waiter would come
over and get you when meal was ready. Last train home. Happy days. 1982
onwards. |
