Kings Head

The Kings Head was situated at
132 Edgware Road.
Built into the base of a block constructed in 1935, it had traded under the
name of the Old English Gentleman since 1987 and closed in 2009.
Now in use as a Lebanese restaurant. |

I went there a few times in its last
years (it was near a hotel I used to stay in on my annual London vacations)
and admittedly it was getting a bit sad-looking toward the end, although a
few hardy souls continued to go. What is interesting about this entry,
though, is in the picture accompanying this entry, with its two pub signs.
These signs continued to outlive the pub after its demise (the facility is
still occupied today, as noted earlier, by a Lebanese restaurant), and on my
most recent visit (November-December 2017) the further left of the signs (as
depicted in the picture) was still there, albeit with the picture on that
sign now largely whited over.
Sadly, what this means now, with the demise of The Tyburn earlier this year
as a casualty of The Bryanston project, the Edgware Road south of the
Marylebone flyover is now, from all appearances, a pub-free zone (except
possibly for some remaining establishments in the nearby side streets). |
