Duke Of Albemarle

The Duke Of Albemarle was situated at 6 Stafford Street. This pub closed in 2006 and is now used as a fashion store.

I was a barman there for a short while. Bryan, the live-in landlord was an absolute gas and a pleasure to work with as was Nairn the upstairs barman and waiter. I remember all the characters fondly such as John the Gooner, Des the doorman and Dougal, which was not his real name but an affectionate nickname after the hapless priest in the TV show Father Ted.
There was lady called Kelly who also worked on the downstairs bar and although I can see her face, I sadly can’t remember the name of the chef. The pub dog was called Smuff and liked a half of slop tray before bed.

Garrett Fitzgerald 1991/2002 I was a customer of this pub and had many good days and nights there. I remember when Brian moved over to be the landlord from the Clarence pub which is visible from this same Duke of Albermarle. The upstairs bar I had a few functions in and all were really good, the decor was most fitting. The staff more importantly made the pub as did the colourful customers, the regular customers and those that wandered in off the tourist trail. Happy memories
