The York was situated at 59 Bramley
Road, on the corner with Blechynden Street. |
|
I lived in 40 Blechynden Street
opposite The York. The York was very quiet during the week, but Turning out
time on Saturday was always a ‘lively’ affair.
Fights would ensue without fail so it was always something to watch although
sometimes a touch Bloody as it was in the days of cut throat razors.
For a short period of time my Dad opened the shop which was attached to the
house. He worked at Whitleys and often managed to procure seconds which they
could not sell. I will always remember him selling a batch of Chamber Pots
and as the York turned out several people came out clutching their Pots,
some wags with them on their heads. |
