My grandparents Charles
& Winnie Barron had this pub in the early eighties. It was always busy and
always had a party-Easter Lord Mayors show etc. Sunday was cheese and silver
onions on a stick day and the after church (Precious Blood) crowd would
come. |

Pulled down in 1999. Crying shame.
Spent many many many happy lunchtimes in here with office staff from around
the corner and of course the hoards of postmen from around the corner at the
local sorting office. It should have been renamed as the posties retreat
there were that many in here. Fantastic landlady and staff, always up for a
bit of banter. Wish I could remember her name. The husband always seemed too
be walking out the door with his golf clubs. A truly brilliant little back
st boozer. Was gutted but not surprised its no longer with us. Still a great
shame though. Wont forget those long 1980s lunch hours ever . |
