The Swan & Sugar Loaf was situated at 55 Dockhead.
This pub featured in the London's Burning TV series and has now been
converted into flats. |

Whilst working for Southwark Council Housing
Dept some 40yrs ago a colleague and me used to use the Swan as a watering
hole for lunchtime whilst driving around the district and before returning
to the office to sleep it off. I remember one lunchtime the pub was empty
and the bar lady told us that the previous day (obviously we were
frequenting another pub that day) someone had come in with a sawn off
shotgun and blasted it across the pub aiming at someone who was apparently
one of the Arif brothers that ran the taxi company located next door to the
pub. The shot was unsuccessful but the effects could always be seen in the
wooden bar and one of the wooden posts. We used it less frequently after
that |
