The Royal Oak was situated on Park
Street and demolished in the early 19th century, at which time it was known
as Park Lane. The Anchor Brewery, home to Barclay Perkins was built on the
site, which was acquired by Courage in 1955, demolished in the early 1980s
and replaced with a housing estate, commemorated today by a plaque. |
