The Oakley Arms was situated at 72 Oakley Street. This pub closed c1918 and is long demolished. Oakley Street is now known as Baylis Road.

The pub was the scene of Edward Despard's arrest as well as his possible political conspiracies. Since I used to spend much time in the area I wanted to see if it still existed and came across your site; it occurred to me that you might find the story relevant. Despard believed in then-radical ideas like racial equality and universal suffrage; he was to be one of the last in England to be hanged, drawn and quartered. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Edward_Despard#Treason_trial.
