My father, Mr Cyril Steele, was the
publican at this public house in 1932/33, I have a few fading memories as I
was only about 3 years at the time.
There was a trap door outside which was opened for delivery of barrels of
beer. I do remember a brewers wagon pulled by 2 shire horses. I used to
watch the barrels being lowered into the cellar by rope with assistance of a
wooden and metal chute. Pub was closed Sunday Afternoons 2pm to 7pm and I
had freedom to roam whilst parents had a afternoon nap. There was a school
opposite where I went to a nursery weekdays. I vaguely remember 2 large bars
serviced from central bar tenders area. Cheapest ale was about 1p a pint. |
