The Green Man was situated at 67 Plumstead High
Street. This pub was known as O'Dowds at time of closure in 2014. |
|
Woolwich Arsenal used the the Green Man as
changing rooms on Good Friday, 1893 in their fixture against Milwall in the
Second Division , played at the Manor Field before the construction of the
Manor Ground itself. |

The Green Man was also a rock music venue in the
70s and 80s. There was a fairly large room behind the main bar, and a stage
with a small dressing room to the right of it. Pub rock bands played there
most Fridays amd/Saturdays, but it was not as organised as some of the
famous pub rock venues north of the river, like the Half Moon or The
Cricketers.
I and my friends, underage for drinking, were welcome there, and had many
enjoyable evenings. |
