My G,G, uncle Joseph Daniels appears to
have been the landlord of this pub on the 1891 census. He had also been
publican of another pub near Tooley street, I am not sure of the name of the
pub.
His brother Moses was publican of The Middleton Arms in Foregate,
Whitechapel. Along with their brother Abraham they were music hall
performers playing violin, banjo and mandolin, in one review they are
described as " playing in a comedic style similar to Paganini". The brothers
performed at the Royal Alhambra Palace in Leicester Square and toured the
continent, performing in Paris and Berlin. Joseph performed for Queen
Victoria and Prince Albert at Windsor Castle. He later became a music
teacher and manufactured banjos whose trade name was The Defiance. |
