During w.w.2 we lived at 13, Goldsmith rd. as did my grand-ma, I am now 86 years of age living in Canada but I clearly recall my grand-ma sending me to the Marlborough head with a metal jug to get her nightly half and half, I believe I was about 12 or 13 years of age. Never had a problem carrying an old jug full of beer. At the Goldsmith rd side of the pub was the men's toilet, no roof and the odor was beyond description. Opposite the pub was Stouts bakery.
