I was in a band called Stone Free, changed to
Evil Ways and changed again to Urchin.
The original band Stone Free was made up of myself - John Hoye bass, Adrian
Smith guitar and vocals and Dave Murray guitar. We used to rehears in my
school hall, Cardinal Pole which was on Kenworthy Road E9. Adrian and Dave
both went on to be in Iron Maiden and still are today.
When we were called Urchin we had a residency at The Squire every Saturday
night for many, many months, the place was very, very popular with Millwall
supporters, In fact Panorama did a special on the pub and it's football
supporters, you can hear Urchin playing in the background. The band then
consisted of - John Hoye on Bass, Adrian Smith guitar and vocals, Maurice
Coyne guitar, Barry Tyler drums, Dave Hall vocals. Urchin did go on to make
a single and album. Before Adrian Smith joined Iron Maiden, Dave Murray was
already in Iron Maiden by that time. |
