The Hare & Hounds was situated on North End Way. This pub was destroyed
in a WWII bombing raid (see photo below), and rebuilt in 1968. It closed in 2003
and was again demolished, and replaced by flats. |

My parents Mike Cook and Heather
Cook were the publicans. I grew up here. We knew many of the locals. |

I worked at the pub for about 3 months, sometime from
July to November 1995. At the time the manager's name was Bret and he
lived there with his girlfriend/wife Michelle. Others working at the pub
at that time:
Young Spanish lady, Mercedes, young British man, Matthew
Sister pubs to this one were the Arnos Arms (formerly next to the Arnos
Grove tube station) and the Maid of Muswell when they were all part of
the Bass pub chain. |

This was my first pub that I was
licencee of . I believe it was around 6 moths we managed the pub then
myself and Michelle moved to the Angel in Highgate . It was very unusual
pub with stair to get to main bar. We did have a Thai restaurant
downstairs called the Thai Tiger and actually brought in a tiger cub for
the opening . A lot of fun with the students from across the road and
some great memories . I left London 1998 returning to Australia |

Barman. Other members of staff from
Australia and New Zealand. I made friends with a Midlands bank manager
in Bermuda- god knows what he came to London for - while washing glasses
and serving pink gins and pints of lager... I was a student then and
welcomed the money provided by the job. Heather was a fine woman who was
a very good cook and Mike kept the whole show running with a smooth but
firm hand. |

Barman. Started there before I was 18! Mike
and Heather were a great couple to work for. Lots of famous faces drank
there. Quite a few lock ins ( even for the local CID!). Also used to DJ
there. Frank the bar manager, sometimes a bit grumpy but made a fab egg
and sausage sandwich when it was cellar cleaning day. |
