I worked in this pub in the early 1970's. The landlord & his wife were Aubrey & Shirley Meredith. This was the very best pub in the area at that time.

Ray Brand 1969/1973 Drank there every night while we lived in Middleton Square. Ffond memories of the Meredith's and Tina the cat. sorry to see its gone
Cameron Begg 1964/1972 I worked at The Northern Polytechnic down the street. Several times a week I'd walk up to EOR for lunch. A couple of pints of Flower's Keg and a slice of stilton cheese with French bread. Shirley had 2 Burmese blue cats I think. There was also a ship's bell hanging on the right hand end of the bar and a hefty fine for ringing it (Half a crown?) A man with very dark hair rang it almost every day when nobody was noticing. It was loud.
