The Middleton Arms was situated at 303
Queensbridge Road. This pub has been demolished and replaced by a block of
flats. |
|
This pub was present by 1847. It was tied to the Charrington Brewery until
1992 when it was acquired by the Wiltshire Brewery. It was closed and
demolished in 2002. |

My grandfather John Henry Noble was the
potman at The Middleton Arms. After leaving the pub to go home he was killed
by German bomb in 1940. |

As a younger man this was where I played for
their pool team, would have been middle to late 70's. Can't remember much re
the staff apart from Sonia, the lovely black lady bar staff, an absolute
lovely lady but dare you get on her bad side she could bark and although
short, she had a bite. I also remember the owner, Reg, as a lad I used to
give him stick about his suits that her wore, asked which second hand shop
he had been to. A really nice bloke, proud of us pool team players as we won
the league a few times which meant good money in the till.
I'd imagine that most of the punters that I remember have passed by now. I
remember playing Pool with international popstar and reggae artist, Eddy
Grant many a time, he invited me and a mate to go to one of his concerts
behind the scenes, lovely bloke, totally not the mega popstar diva type,
down to earth and a good laugh.
Shame to see it made way for a block of flats, was a truly happy pub with a
totally diverse set of customers who all got on great. |
