The George was situated at 171 Glyn Road and was closed c2007. |

This pub was certainly present by 1901
and presumably earlier. It was a Courage Brewery pub, run in the 1930s by
George Harris who doubled up as a Director of the nearby Clapton Orient
Football Club. It closed in 2006 or 2007. There is currently a petition
and campaign to have this pub reopened. |

It appears that the 'Save The George' website is
no more, so the worst is feared for this pub. The bar had been gutted when
the photo below was taken. |
