Turks Head
The Turks Head was situated at 30 Wapping
High Street. It was destroyed by bombing during World War II and was not
replaced. Prior to 1830 pirates and other criminals condemned to death for
crimes committed at sea were hanged at Execution Dock nearby. As this Turks
Head was the last pub on the journey to the gallows the victim was allowed a
quart of ale here. |
