The Silver Trumpet was situated on the
corner of Commercial Road and Stepney Causeway. This pub was closed in
1973 and subsequently demolished with flats built on the site. I’m not sure
if it was a compulsory purchase by the Council or if the Brewery voluntarily
sold to them. On the opposite side of Stepney Causeway was another pub,
which remained open, & on the other side of Commercial Road there was
another pub, which also wasn’t affected, so there were 3 pubs literally
within a minute of each other. Therefore, I assume 1 disappearing wasn’t
much of a loss!
I know all this because my parents were the Managers of “The Silver Trumpet”
& we lived above the pub. |
