The Old Globe was situated at 191 Mile End Road.
This pub was present as the Globe as early as
1690 and was rebuilt in 1811, although it has been much altered since. By
1830 it had been renamed the Old Globe to help distinguish it from the New
Globe which had opened up nearby. The top, third, storey of the pub was
lost to Second World War bombing. It had been a Charrington’s Brewery pub,
passing to the Charles Wells Brewery of Bedford in around 1990. It closed a
couple of times in the early
2000s, the April 2010 closure
being the terminal one as the pub has now been converted to use as a
bookies. |
