The Three Crowns was situated at 1 Pier Street, close to Woolwich Ferry. It
closed in the early 1990s.
I remember drinking here with a friend on a Tuesday night in the 1980s when
closing time locally was 10.30pm. We remembered that closing time in
Woolwich on the other side of the river was 11pm so we left the Three Crowns
and walked through the tunnel under the Thames to get to Woolwich and have a
couple of extra pints. |

This pub was present by 1855 and was formerly tied to Charrington’s
Brewery. It lay empty for many years after closure, but has now been
converted to residential use. |
