Sir John Franklin

The Sir John Franklin was built in 1963 at 269 East India Dock Road.

This pub was first established in 1859, a newly built house at a cost of £779.  The old pub was demolished in 1963 to make way for a widened approach road to the Blackwall Tunnel and a typically 1960s replacement pub at the edge of the new road junction.  It had been a Mann, Crossman & Paulin Brewery pub, later passing to Watney’s.  Closure came in 2005 and the building was demolished by 2011 (see site in photo below).
