The Buccaneer was a Docklands pub previously known as the Blue Posts. In the
1930s it was run by Charlie Brown Jnr, the son of Charlie Brown, landlord of
the nearby Railway Tavern (also known as Charlie Brown's (q.v)).. In 1938
Charlie Brown Jnr moved to the Roundabout in London E18. In the late
1980s both the Buccaneer and the Railway Tavern/Charlie Brown's were
demolished as part of the Docklands Railway Expansion scheme. |

This was one
of the dock pubs with a General Order of Exemption, along with Charlie
Browns, almost opposite.. The pub could trade between 0600 and 0900 Monday
to Saturday, as well as normal hours, to allow people "following a lawful
trade or calling nearby" to have a drink after a night shift.
By the time I came to it in the mid 70s it was our favourite haunt after a
police night duty. Every Saturday morning officers from several local
stations would meet for a drink and chinwag |
