The Black Horse was situated at 27 Ropemakers Field. This pub was present by 1804 and survived at least until the late 1980s, by which time if was known as The House They Left Behind. Described as a highly authentic seafarers pub, it rated a mention in the 1957 publication “The Old Inns of England”.  It traded for a while ad “The House They Left Behind” and is now in private residential use.
