The landlord of the Duke's Head in 1871 was a Joseph Butler, aged 36, one of my ancestors. He disappeared without trace sometime after on a day trip to Boston!

My Great-Grandfather, John Clark b. 1830 left school at 13.  His first job, circa 1843, was as Boot Boy, wage £1.00 per Year. (!), at the Duke's Head.  The innkeeper was one John Holmes.
