The Wheatsheaf was situated on Towngate. This pub was built on the site of The Horseshoe in 1915 and acquired by the Soames brewery in 1922. The publican in 1919 was John Thompson.  Renamed The Winning Post in the 1950s it was closed and demolished in 1999. The site was then used as the car park for the newly built Towngate Inn.
