Building Record |
This public house consists of three discrete buildings, with
the earliest being late 18th century in date. This part of the building
still has part of its mansard roof, but at the rear, where the building has
been extended, it has been altered into a catslide roof. The roof which is
now tile was probably originally thatched. The whole building has been
rendered and has a mixture of window types. {2} The building was the subject
of a programme of historic building recording, conducted in December 2013,
prior to proposed renovation works and the change of use to residential. The
building is built of brick, mostly covered by render, and likely dates to
c.1780, when a building is first marked at this location on historical
mapping. The building is comprised of three main structural elements; the
original one-and-a-half storey eastern section under the mansard roof, a
two-storey central extension and a single storey extension to the west, both
under pitched roofs. There are also a number of later additions to the rear,
and evidence of former parts of the structure that have been removed,
illustrating at least four distinct episodes of remodelling of the property,
equally evident in changes to the interior fixtures and fittings. |
