Daniel Lambert

The Daniel Lambert was situated on Gamel Road. This pub closed c2008 and has now been demolished. A mosque has been built on the site.
It was built in 1959 by Duxbury Builders for Tennants Brewery, Nottingham. The first Landlord was Ray Harlow and his wife Marjorie. Interestingly, Marjorie was the first Landlady in Leicester to introduce hamburgers to be sold in a pub! She was also one of the first to stock Pukka Pies in the original hot cabinets supplied by Pukka when they were a small fledgling maker. Ray and Marjorie had a Mynah bird called Billy, customers would go to the pub just to hear Billy swear at them! They left the pub in 1967 to take over the newly built Dixie Arms on Vaughan Way in the City Centre.
