The Stocks Hotel was situated on Manchester Road. This pub closed in 2017. It was the headquarters of Walkden rugby (1878 - 1899), who played in the Lancashire Union initially, and then joined the Northern Union (later to be known as the Rugby League). They played in Stocks Field behind the hotel.
