The Shakespeare was situated on Virginia Street. This pub has now reopened.
 
Now its closed again.

The Shakespeare has a chequered history and opened and closed several times. It was later renamed WD Sutton as a homage to William 'the duke' Sutton who built Southport's founding hotel, The Duke's Folly, in 1796. It has now been demolished. with a Social Housing complex built on the site.
