The Shakespeare has a chequered history and
opened and closed several times. It was later renamed WD Sutton
as a homage to William 'the duke' Sutton who built Southport's founding
hotel, The Duke's Folly, in 1796. It has
now been demolished. with a Social Housing complex built on the site. |
