Jolly Farmer

The Jolly Farmer was situated on the corner of Orchard Street and Market Street. Closed in the 1980s it was also known as the Farmers Arms. You can still see 'Stables Farmers Arms' inscribed in the stone work above the ground floor windows. It is now used as Cookies cafe.

I managed this pub restaurant for two years prior to Preston Guild in the early 70s. 5 bars 2 restaurants sold Lion Brewery ale few people ate in those days but the bars took a small fortune incredibly busy. Weekends the police parked outside at closing time and emptied the bars. So they could concentrate on the rest of town as we were the busiest in town. Happy days

Geoff Wilkinson 1974/1989 I started off as barman and ended up as duty/relief manager for Jim Blackburn. Until the goon of an assistant manager though he could do a better job of it and watered down all the stock. He fooled the area directors, kept his job. Within a year it closed down.
