My great great grandfather Christopher Gregson was landlord
of the Doctor Syntax Preston from about 1875 until his death in 1902. His
wife Mary nee Tuson died two weeks after giving birth to their ninth child
so he must have had the enormous task of running a pub and looking after his
children. I understand that he was quite a martinet and very strict.
Further tragedy struck the family when two more of his children died and his
son John died in 1902 as a result of falling into a vat of boiling beer.
Truly horrendous as he lived for two days after the accident. Christopher
still has one grand daughter living who will be 100 years old in January
2012. |
