Me and my mate Mick used to go in the
Angel in the early 80's to play darts and have the one meal on offer-pie
peas and gravy. We should have been studying at Newman college at the time.
The guy that ran it was called Dineen and didn't take kindly Mick asking for
a sample of the Carling lager on one occasion. He drank the sample and
nodded it's ok. Old man Dineen enquired what he was doing and Mick replied
that it wasn't unknown for it to be a bit manky! and give us head aches in
the afternoon. Back then it was a traditional red carpet and horse brasses
type of place but fond memories. |
