Rope & Anchor
The Rope & Anchor was situated on West Street. This pub was
present by 1861. |
The publican was 40 year old Joseph Hadfield in 1904. He
married Mary Ellen Curran that year and she and her daughter Annie Curran
moved in and helped run the place for a few years. Annie met Tom McLean the
rugby player at the Rope and Anchor’s front desk, they married and moved to
Hamilton, Ontario, Canada as did Mary Ellen after Joseph’s death in 1908.
