The Spekeland Arms was situated on Spekeland
Road, Edge Hill. Known locally as Joni's. |
|
In researching my family tree I found that on the 1881
census my great grandfather, George Maylor, ran the pub. I also found his
great grand daughter in Maine USA. She said her grandmother told her the
stories that the pub had a monkey and a parrot that swore at the
customers.
The pub had a restaurant on the second floor and a ballroom on the top
floor and a huge spiral staircase. It is still there and has been
converted into student accommodation and is now called the Nags Head
