The Lighthouse was situated at 73 Lambeth Road. |

I know it well as I spent my
childhood there visiting and helping my Nanna who ran it. She was the
Licencee Mary Josephine Johnson (Josie) in the 1960s -1980s then it passed
to her daughter also named Josie. We had great 'stay behinds' (after-hours
parties) with family and regulars. Music and dancing then the older people
would take a turn at singing. I stayed there every fortnight to clean up the
pub and upstairs. In bed I could hear the voices below. Nanna Josie worked
extremely hard and the pub was always busy. I'd buy it if I had the money as
it's the last of her pubs standing. (She ran other pubs from the 1950s, The
Clock, The Atlantic and The Myrtle). |
