St Georges Tavern

The St Georges Tavern was situated at 238 Marsh Lane.

I grew up here; my grandparents were the landlords for quite some time. I think the pub was a different place when I was young thought, I can remember that all the Liverpool players used to hang out there! I actually remember that included people like Steve Heighway and his generation of players. It was like an early themed pub with suits of armour on the wall and swords, staffs, spears and pennants. My grandma had a room full of darts trophies as she was the ladies captain and my grandad had an equal number of darts and snooker trophies. They used to hold fancy dress nights and my mum met my dad when she was working behind the bar! I used to roller skate around the pool table when the pub was closed, there was no 24 hour licences back then and children certainly weren't allowed in when it was open. We had two huge alsations as guard dogs, and I also remember being taken downstairs into the pub in the middle of the night to keep us safe and within sight because of the rioting going on outside.
