The Furnace Vaults was situated at 112 St James Street, on the corner of Jordan Street. This pub was demolished c1989.
I was 17 years old and worked behind the bar with a friend Beverley who's uncle ran the pub. There was a Irish contingent who were regular, old guys as tough as nails. One evening Bev and I decided we wanted to go clubbing so chucked everyone out early there was a riot the old boys got really angry. We closed up went clubbing got back next day sacked.
