Albion Hotel

The Albion Hotel was situated at 57 Railway Road.

We used to meet every Thursday at the Albion. We were a local scooter club founded in 1986 called ‘The Screaming Dead’. At our height in 1988 we boasted 52 scooter riding members. We supported local causes like the Scanner Appeal etc. putting on fun days to raise money. I remember only May who was a great landlady and truly loocked after us and even when we put on do’s, she would allow people who travelled from the south as well as Scotland etc. to put out their sleeping bags and sleep where they could. Which is one reason we had a ‘drink till you drop’ do in 1987 which filled every section of The Albion as well as a disco in the cellar!

Next landlord I remember was Terry Foo, who later took over The New Inn as well as The George (town centre).

Sadly we had to leave The Albion when it closed in 1990 (I think). I still go there now, except now it’s the Man Lee chinese restaurant, but I still can see how it once was in my minds eye.

Great memories.
